As a long time non-user of Google services, this is the best and easiest it's ever been. I do suggest you cancel your subscription, because speaking with your wallet is the best way to speak, though I hope you'll understand the (critical) privacy implications in doing so You're the one choosing to make a tradeoff, and in the meantime Proton is working diligently to allow the best of both worlds. Most importantly though, if your privacy is absolutely critical and your priority, you'll have to learn to survive without notifications for the time being. Also, there's no other email provider (that I know of) which has consistent notifications without GMS Proton has already said they're working on a notification framework to replace GMS, and if you've used any non-GMS app with notifications you'll know it's hard to perfect.
